Primetime Emmy Awards
Network: NBC
Date of Ceremony: September 12th,1965
Involvement: Joan and Melvin Douglas accept the "Outstanding Achievement In The Area of Entertainment" award on behalf of Lynn Fontanne and Alfred Lunt for television film "The Magnificent Yankee."
Description of The Ceremony: The awards ceremony was hosted by Sammy Davis Jr. and Danny Thomas. Joan attended the luncheon ceremony held at the Hilton Hotel in Manhattan, New York.

Date of Ceremony: April 8th, 1963
Involvement: Joan presents the Best Director award to David Lean for "Lawrence Of Arabia." Joan accepts the Best Actress award on behalf of Ann Bancroft for "The Miracle Worker."
Description of The Ceremony: The ceremony was hosted by Frank Sinatra, and held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica, California.

It was during this ceremony that the controversial action of Joan accepting the Academy Award on behalf of Anne Bancroft for "Best Actress"  for "The Miracle Worker" took place. Since the ceremony, this event has become a part of Hollywood folklore, with series such as "Feud: Bette & Joan" portraying this action by Joan has premeditated to spite Bette Davis, who was also nominated for "Best Actress for "What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?" However, there have never been any witnesses or documentation to confirm his allegation.

Additionally, it is typically unknown to the public that upon the film's debut in 1962, Joan had acted as an usher for the premiere of "The Miracle Worker" in Manhattan, New York. This further made Joan a natural choice to accept the award on behalf of Bancroft, who was performing in the play "Mother Courage" in Manhattan, and could not travel to Los Angeles to attend the ceremony.

Date of Ceremony: April 5th, 1965
Involvement: Joan presents the Best Director award to George Cukor for "My Fair Lady".
Description of The Ceremony: The ceremony was hosted by Bob Hope at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica, California. Joan was escorted to the ceremony by Cesar Romero.

For this ceremony, Joan brought two Edith Head-designed gowns, onw in black and one in white in order to alternate dress colors with any other female presenters or winners. Joan arrived to the ceremony in the white gown, however, after Audrey Hepburn won the "Best Actress" award for "My Fair Lady," Joan changed into the black gown in order to present the "Best Director" award, and to pose for photos with "Best Director" winner, George Cukor.

Date of Ceremony: April 14th, 1969

Involvement: Joan did not present or accept any awards at this ceremony, however, she was shown as an audience member during the telecast.

Description of The Ceremony: The ceremony had no official host, and was held, for the first year, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, California.

Joan is shown in the audience, along with other female actresses, during the opening song "Star!" performed by Frank Sinatra. According to documents, this on-screen appearance of Joan and the other actress was not at random, but pre-meditated by the Academy's staff, with each actress knowing before the ceremony that they would appear on camera during the song.
