THE CONCLUDING CHAPTER OF CRAWFORD

Scripts

"Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte" (Final draft - September 1964 revision)

The complete final draft (shooting script) of "Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte."

The film's original script was drafted on March 23rd, 1964. A second final draft was completed on May 11th, 1964, with scene revisions made on:

May 12th, 13th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 26th and 29th (before principal photography began on June 1st, 1964).

Joan was replaced by Olivia de Havilland in August 1964. The script was revised again following Joan's leave from the production. These script revisions were made on September 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, 14th and 25th, 1964. The majority of these revised scenes regarded the character of "Miriam."

This is primarily due to de Havilland's request that the character be rewritten to her specifications upon accepting the role. The original version of "Miriam" (Joan's version) wasn't written the same as portrayed by de Havilland in the completed film. Originally, the character was more aggressive and dominating. (See the original March 23rd, 1964 script here to compare how the character was significantly altered.)

Additionally, the below script contains cut scenes involving the characters of "Drew Bayliss," "Harry Willis," "Reporter Paul Marchand," "Miriam's Taxi Driver," "Jewel Mayhew," and "Sheriff Luke Standish." Note the scenes involving producer Bette Davis' character of "Charlotte Hollis" received no cuts from the script.
